Eleven and 22

Eleven and 22 February 1732. Yes, two birthdays! No wonder people are confused! It was so even during Washington's life. The reason for the confusion is that old-style calendar entry of 11 February 1731/32 became obsolete in 1752, when the British corrected their calendar by adding eleven days. This made Washington's birth date under the new style 22 February 1732.

George Washington(February 22, 1732– December 14, 1799) was the leader of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783) and served as the first President of the United States of America (1789–1797). Washington was awarded the very first Congressional
Gold Medal with the Thanks of Congress.

Washington died in 1799, and the funeral oration delivered by Henry Lee stated that of all Americans, he was "first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen." Washington has been consistently ranked by scholars as one of the greatest U.S. Presidents.
"Government
is not reason;
it is not eloquent;
it is force.
Like fire,
it is a dangerous
servant and a
fearful master."
George Washington
