Happy Thanksgiving

Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favorable interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enable to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.

Colonel Christopher Gadsden

The Gadsden Flag

All credit for this post goes to Chris Whitten www.gadsden.info

Although Benjamin Franklin helped create the American rattlesnake symbol, his name isn't generally attached to the rattlesnake flag. The yellow "don't tread on me" standard is usually called a Gadsden flag, for Colonel Christopher Gadsden, or less commonly, a Hopkins flag, for Commodore Esek Hopkins.

These two individuals were mulling about Philadelphia at the same time, making important contributions to American history and the history of the rattlesnake flag.
Christopher Gadsden was an American patriot if ever there was one. He led Sons of Liberty in South Carolina starting in 1765, and was later made a colonel in the Continental Army. In 1775 he was in Philadelphia representing his home state in the Continental Congress. He was also one of three members of the Marine Committee who decided to outfit and man the Alfred and its sister ships.

By 1775, the snake symbol wasn't just being printed in newspapers. It was appearing all over the colonies: on uniform buttons, on paper money, and of course, on banners and flags.
The snake symbol morphed quite a bit during its rapid, widespread adoption. It wasn't cut up into pieces anymore. And it was usually shown as an American timber rattlesnake, not a generic serpent.

We don't know for certain where, when, or by whom the familiar coiled rattlesnake was first used with the warning "Don't Tread on Me."
We do know when it first entered the history books.
In the fall of 1775, the British were occupying Boston and the young Continental Army was holed up in Cambridge, woefully short on arms and ammunition. At the Battle of Bunker Hill, Washington's troops had been so low on gunpowder that they were ordered "not to fire until you see the whites of their eyes."

"In December 1775, "An American Guesser" anonymously wrote to the Pennsylvania Journal:

The rattlesnake also has sharp eyes, and "may therefore be esteemed an emblem of vigilance." Furthermore,
"She never begins an attack, nor, when once engaged, ever surrenders: She is therefore an emblem of magnanimity and true courage. ... she never wounds 'till she has generously given notice, even to her enemy, and cautioned him against the danger of treading on her."
Finally,
"I confess I was wholly at a loss what to make of the rattles, 'till I went back and counted them and found them just thirteen, exactly the number of the Colonies united in America; and I recollected too that this was the only part of the Snake which increased in numbers. ...
"'Tis curious and amazing to observe how distinct and independent of each other the rattles of this animal are, and yet how firmly they are united together, so as never to be separated but by breaking them to pieces. One of those rattles singly, is incapable of producing sound, but the ringing of thirteen together, is sufficient to alarm the boldest man living."
Benjamin Franklin, portrait by David Martin, 1767. White House Historical Association.
Many scholars now agree that this "American Guesser" was Benjamin Franklin.

Franklin is also known for opposing the use of an eagle — "a bird of bad moral character" — as a national symbol.

Sarah Palin

Part Two:

I remember hearing the rumors about Sarah Palin being the choice to be John McCain's running mate and with a quick Google search was able to see what she looked like. When I saw her picture for the first time I thought she looked weak and nerdy. After listening to her selection speech to run with John McCain and listening to some of the chatter about her personal life she reminded me of the great rock star Ted Nugent. It turned out that John McCain, the main stream press and the liberals could not handle this future star.

John McCain chose Sarah Palin to make up for his short comings as a conservative republican. For years John McCain disappointed the conservatives with his RINO ways (Republican In Name Only) working with the liberals on amnesty, campaign finance reform, and global warming issues just to mention a few. He assumed he might win if moderates voted for him and the conservatives came out for Sarah. In the end the conservatives came out for Sarah but not for John. The moderates and independents decided they were ready for Hope & Change and the conservatives came out knowing they had more to vote against than for.

The main stream media promoted Barack Obama, helped select John McCain (most like Bush) and then set out to destroy Sarah Palin when they realized how popular she might be.

So here it is almost 2010 and not much has changed, Sarah Palin is as popular as ever, the main stream press is still attacking her and anyone who supports her. The press that is trying to destroy her is actually making her even more popular and the backfire has begun. Some in the press are beginning to look foolish.

Part of Sarah Palins Selection Speech:

I never really set out to be involved in public affairs, much less to run for this office. My mom and dad both worked at the local elementary school. And my husband and I, we both grew up working with our hands. I was just your average hockey mom in Alaska, raising...
(APPLAUSE)

We're busy raising our kids. I was serving as the team mom and coaching some basketball on the side. I got involved in the PTA and then was elected to the city council, and then elected mayor of my hometown, where my agenda was to stop wasteful spending, and cut property taxes, and put the people first.
(APPLAUSE)

I was then appointed ethics commissioner and chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. And when I found corruption there, I fought it hard, and I held the offenders to account.

Does this sound like a politician that wants to transform our country or the world or a politician who just wants what is best for us and future generations?

Actions speak louder than words and Sarah Palin has proved this from the PTA to the Governorship of Alaska.

It is way too soon to answer the question - Would you vote for Sarah Palin in 2012? But it's not too soon to support her in what ever she decides to do. She is a good person who loves her country and we all can only benefit from her involvement.

I voted for her in 2008 and will cast my vote in 2012 for the candidate that will return our country to free enterprise principals, individual responsibility and liberty.

Sarah has earned the respect of Proud Americans across this country because of her actions not only her words. The tea party movement and Sarah have allot in common, they both want to clean up the republican party and return to common sense policies.

Saracuda Part 1 (Don't be scared)

I can only take credit for The Title and the comments that will follow part two:

By Dewie Whetsell, Alaskan Fisherman. As posted in comments on Greta's article referencing the MOVEON ad about Sarah Palin. The last 45 of my 66 years I've spent in a commercial fishing town in Alaska. I understand Alaska politics but never understood national politics well until this last year. Here's the breaking point: Neither side of the Palin controversy gets it. It's not about persona, style, rhetoric, it's about doing things. Even Palin supporters never mention the things that I'm about to mention here.

No matter where you fall in the wide spectrum of thought Governor Sara Palin's ability as a person and as a person of integrity and what the record shows about her stewardship as Governor of Alaska says it and says it all........

It's about the things she did and how she went about doing them. It's about her integrity. Its about her love of America. It's about her love of Americans. Even Governor Palin's supporters never mention these attributes. Now, with your permission, I will do my level best to set the record straight about Governor Sara Palin

1-
Democrats forget when Palin was the Darling of the Democrats, because as soon as Palin took over the Governor's office from a fellow Republican and tough SOB, Frank Murkowski, She tore into the Republican's "Corrupt Bastards Club" (CBC) and courageously threw them out.....
And sent them packing. I say courageously because they were from the same Republican party she belonged to.

Many of them are now justifiably residing in State housing and wearing Orange jump suits.

Back then the Democrats reacted by skipping around the school yard, throwing confetti and singing "la la la la" (well, you know how they are).

Name another governor in this country that has ever done anything similar.

But while you're thinking, I'll continue.

2-
Now with the CBC gone, there were fewer Alaskan politicians to protect the huge, giant oil companies in Alaska.

So, she constructed and enacted a new system of splitting the oil profits called "ACES".
Exxon (the biggest corporation in the world) protested and Sarah stood her ground and told them "don't let the door hit you in the butt on your way out." of Alaska.

They stayed and coughed up their share as well, and Alaska residents went from being merely wealthy, to being filthy rich.

Of course, the other huge international oil companies meekly fell into line.

Again, I ask you, give me the name of any other governor in this country that has done anything similar.

3-
The other thing she did - When she walked into the governor's office, she got out the list of State requests for federal funding for projects, known as "pork" or "EAR MARKS". Sara went through the list, took 85% of them and placed them in a "when-hell-freezes-over" stack. The "Bridge to Nowhere" went into this stack.

She let locals know that if we need something built, we'll pay for it ourselves. Maybe she figured she could use the money she got from selling the previous governor's luxury jet. She felt it was too extravagant for her.

Maybe she could use the money she saved by dismissing the governor"s cook (remarking that she could cook for her own family), And giving back the State vehicle issued to her, maintaining that she already had a car, and dismissing her State provided Security Force (never mentioning-
I imagine-that she's packing heat herself).

I'm still waiting to hear the names of those other governors.

4-
Now, even with her much-ridiculed "gosh and golly" folksy mannerism, she also managed to put together a totally new approach to getting a natural gas pipeline built. This project will be the biggest private construction project in the history of North America.

No one else could do it although they tried. If that doesn't impress you, then you're trying too hard to be unimpressed while watching her do things like this while baking up a batch of brownies with her other hand.

5-
For 30 years, Exxon held a lease to do exploratory drilling at a place called Point Thompson.
They made excuses the entire time why they couldn't start drilling. In truth they were holding it like an investment waiting for the price of oil to move up and up before selling its oil.

For 30 years, no governor could make them get started. This past summer, she told them she was revoking their lease and kicking them out.

They protested and threatened court action. She shrugged and reminded them that she knew the way to the court house. Alaska won again.

Part two will follow, stay tuned
My comments on Sarah will follow part two.

The Fits Going To Hit The Shan

Obama is throwing the fit in the shan and thinks none of it will get on him.

I am starting to believe President Obama cares very little about re-election and his objective is to transform this country and the world as much as possible in his first four years as he has stated and then move on to the UN in 2012 rather than become a lame duck president. Once at the UN he will be able to negotiate with all the new friends he has made, dictators and tyrants. After all it is much easier negotiating with countries when they are not controlled by free people. His stand on Honduras and Iran are an indication of that. Do you remember this? Maybe not, the main stream media did not cover it too much.

Some unprecedented news today, folks. Never in the history of the United Nations has a U.S. President taken the chairmanship of the powerful UN Security Council. Perhaps it is because of what could arguably be a Constitutional prohibition against doing so.

To wit: Section 9 of the Constitution says:
No Title of Nobility shall be granted by the United States: And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince, or foreign State.

Click the link above for more information from 9/14/2009 or do some research of your own about the UN and BHO.

The terrorist have already admitted to the terrorist attack of 911 and are proud of it. These men are not citizens of the US and have no rights to OUR Constitution.
The real goal of the Obama administration unfortunately is to provide more appeasement to our enemies and to eventually bring charges to those who served in the previous administration and weaken our country. Our country will end up being on trial instead of the terrorist. If this group of terorists get a trial in our civilian courts where will it end? Liberals do not like the US being a super power and if they have their way we will become weaker and the whole world will suffer.

I plan to write more about this later, for now please ignore what President Obama says but watch he does.

Veterans Day 2009 - Thanks Dad

"It’s all appreciation for us. We’ll shake every hand we can and meet every person we can, and if nothing else, leave them with a little piece of Americana . . . Mostly, I just enjoy seeing the glow on people’s faces. Their hearts shine a big light up through their eyes and smiles. For a brief time, they can forget about their day-to-day problems out here . . . God Bless them all! That’s why we’re here; to show our appreciation." Toby Keith

They Chose Responsibility!

As Nobel Prize winner William Faulkner explained in his 1953 article "The Duty to be Free":

"By remaining in the old world, we could have been not only secure, but even free of the need to be responsible. Instead, we chose the freedom, the liberty, the independence, and the inalienable right to responsibility."
