Reform not Transform

I'm tired of the fire drills and the my way or the highway approach.

United State of America

Yes, I know the “S” is missing from the title.

The Revolutionary war ended in 1783

On April 18, 1865, the Civil War ended with the surrender of the Confederate army. 617,000 Americans had died in the war, approximately the same number as in all of America's other wars combined.

Hawaii and Alaska became states in 1959, only 50 years ago.

The 10th Amendment is becoming more and more irrelevant as the federal government grows out of control.

Amendment X
The powers not delegated to The United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The states and the people will become so dependent upon the federal government that the sovereignty of the individual states will become irrelevant. I feel the need to place a Thomas Jefferson quote here: “A government big enough to give you everything you want, is strong enough to take everything you have”. (Actually I could put a dozen Thomas Jefferson quotes here.) Resolutions in 36 states are now being introduced or are already in place to push back against the governments over reaching and power. Does this sound familiar, revolutionary and civil war?

The founding fathers pledged their Lives, Fortunes and sacred Honor in The Declaration of Independence to lay the ground work for The Constitution Of The United States. Their intentions were to establish a guide for our future so that we the people could be free from over reaching governments forever.

As Benjamin Franklin is credited with saying, at the conclusion of the Constitutional Convention in 1787:

Q: “Well, Doctor, what have we got—a Republic or a Monarchy?”
A: “A Republic, if you can keep it.”

Benjamin Franklin seems to have known the dangers of the new system, dangers we seem to have forgotten. They had best be remembered, or we will lose that for which so many have paid so dearly.

If we keep ignoring our Constitution we will become The United State of America.

The more the federal government controls all areas of our lives and the more similar the states become to one another the more the individual states borders become blurred. Our slow departure away from the U.S. Constitution may have started the day after its signing. The struggle to maintain our Constitution has always been a challenge and always will be. Entitlements account for over 60 percent of our federal budget. All these entitlement programs are for our own good right? I’m not going to get into all the different programs and who started them, because every one of them was started by we the people with the most famous ones starting in the early 1900s. Health care is almost 20% of our economy. What better way could there be to gain complete control of the states and the citizens than through health care run by the federal government.

The civil war was not about slavery when it began, just as health care is not about your well being. It is about power. The power the federal government will have over the states and individuals if the healthcare industry is taken over will make us all slaves. It will also create more people dependent on the federal government and those people will vote for more and more entitlements provided by the liberals at all levels of government. How will you feel when 6 out of 10 dollars you earn goes towards paying for entitlements? Do you think this recent acceleration towards federal government taking over private industries will stop with the health care system? Who knows what’s next? My guess is what ever is left. Oil companies, insurance companies, natural resources, property rights, transportation, universities …

What will happen when some states welcome more and more entitlements from the federal government and fall in line and other states want to manage their own affairs as per the 10th Amendment? All these entitlements forced upon the states and the people weather it is welcomed or not will create divisions and competition between the states will be reduced.

The challenges we face need to be solved on the state and local level when and where ever possible. Competition between the states is good, just as competition between companies in the free market is good. The states that succeed should be emulated the ones that fail should learn from their mistakes and move forward. When one large central power is in control of all the states the right of the individual states to fail or succeed is lost.

People today have the freedom to move out of one state and into another state that is more to their liking. One day soon if we ignore our Founding Fathers, our Decleration of Independence and our U.S. Constitution we will all live in the same state, the state of dependence.

Joe Legal vs. Jose Illegal

You have 2 families... "Joe Legal" and "Jose Illegal". Both families
have 2 parents, 2 children and live in California.

"Joe Legal" works in construction, has a Social Security Number, and
makes $25.00 per hour with payroll taxes deducted.

"Jose Illegal" also works in construction, has NO Social Security
Number, and gets paid $15.00 cash "under the table".

Joe Legal... $25.00 per hour x 40 hours = $1000.00 per week = $52,000
per year. Now take 30% away for state and federal tax. Joe Legal now
has $31,231.00.

Jose Illegal... $15.00 per hour x 40 hours = $600.00 per week =
$31,200.00 per year. Jose Illegal pays no taxes. Jose Illegal now has
$31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays for Medical and Dental Insurance with limited coverage
....$1000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe Legal now has
$19,231.00.

Jose Illegal has full Medical and Dental coverage through the state and
local clinics at a cost of $0.00 per year. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal makes too much money to be eligible for Food Stamps or
Welfare so Joe Legal pays for food... $1,000.00 per month = $12,000.00
per year. Joe Legal now has $7,231.00.

Jose Illegal has no documented income and is eligible for Food Stamps
and Welfare. Jose Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal pays rent of $1,000.00 per month = $12,000.00 per year. Joe
Legal is now in the hole -$4,769.00.

Jose Illegal receives a $500 per month Federal rent subsidy, which
entirely pays his rent of $500.00 per month = $6,000.00 per year. Jose
Illegal still has $31,200.00.

Joe Legal now works overtime on Saturdays and gets a part time job
after work to make ends meet.

Jose Illegal has nights and weekends off to enjoy with his family.

Joe Legal's and Jose Illegal's children both attend the same school.

Joe Legal pays for his children's lunches while Jose Illegal's children
get free government sponsored lunches.

Joe Legal's children go home after school. Jose Illegal's children have
an after school ESL program which, again, is provided free of charge.

Joe Legal and Jose Illegal both enjoy the same Police and Fire Services,
but Joe Legal paid for them and Jose Illegal did not pay.

ARE YOU MAD YET?!?!?!

The reason congressmen try so hard to get re-elected is that they would
hate to have to live under the laws they've passed.
